Lead Hand Gravel Crew-Heavy Equipment Operator

February 24, 2020

Permanent/Full-Time

Foothills County encompasses a diverse rural landscape covering approximately 3,600 square kilometres located in the foothills of southern Alberta.  Foothills County is seeking an experienced Lead Hand-Heavy Equipment Operator for the Gravel Crew in the summer season and an equipment operator in the winter season.

This position is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the Gravel Crew in the summer season and operate heavy equipment in the winter season.

NOTE:  This position will require a Class 1 Driver’s Licence.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED equivalent and/or 3 years related experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience operating equipment such as finish grader, dozers, scrapers, road reclaimers, excavators or rock trucks.
  • Knowledgeable in the safe operation and maintenance of commercial vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Good written and communication skills.

Utility Operator

February 18, 2020

Permanent, Full-Time

Foothills County encompasses a diverse rural landscape covering approximately 3,600 square kilometres located in the foothills of southern Alberta.  Foothills County is inviting applications for a permanent full-time Utility Operator.

The Utility Operator will perform a variety of skilled, technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the County’s Water and Wastewater assets including the SCADA system.

This position is responsible for operating the water, water distribution, wastewater collection and wastewater disposal facilities.  The position will also operate, maintain, troubleshoot and monitor all necessary equipment and structures and develop solutions to rectify any issues.  As part of the Utilities Team, the operator will follow regular maintenance programs, procedures and schedules, provide accurate reports, complete testing and ensuring compliance with Alberta Environment. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Alberta Environmental Codes of Practice for Water/Wastewater Systems and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Have or working towards the Level 1 Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Treatment certificates.  Current Level 1 certification would be considered an asset for this position.
  • Two or more years of experience in operating and maintaining water and wastewater plants and experience with Industrial wastewater treatment facilities would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

This position is required to work on-call as well as after hours and weekends as necessary.

Spray Truck Operator

(Seasonal – April to October 2020)

Foothills County encompasses a diverse rural landscape covering approximately 3,600 square kilometres located in the foothills of southern Alberta.  Foothills County is inviting applications for a seasonal Spray Truck Operator to work within the Agricultural Services department.

This position is responsible for the herbicide application for weed/invasive plants and brush control within Foothills County.    

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Pesticide Applicator Certificate.
  • Knowledge of the Weed Control Act, invasive plants and animals and the Environmental Code of Practice for Pesticides in Alberta.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Working knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to interact with the general public in a polite and courteous manner.
