LAND USE BYLAW REVIEW AND UPDATE
We are in the process of reviewing and updating the Land Use Bylaw. This process was initiated in November 2010 and has been ongoing throughout 2011.
What have we been working on?
A Land Use Bylaw Committee was formed with the task of reviewing and updating the Land Use Bylaw. Our goal is to update the document to enable implementation on the policies and objectives of the new Municipal Development Plan, ensure alignment with other recently updated documents, improve clarity, and make the Land Use Bylaw more user friendly for the public.
How has the public been involved to date?
In the Spring of 2011, an MD wide Survey was mailed out as well as posted on the MD website, in order to obtain public feedback on challenges you may have experienced with the current Land Use Bylaw.
In May/June 2011, a series of Focus Group and Round Table Sessions were undertaken with a wide range of residents, professionals, and business owners.
These focus groups were designed to engage the public and obtain additional feedback on constraints and challenges experienced in working with both general and specific use regulations addressed in the Land Use Bylaw.
What are the next steps?
The Land Use Bylaw committee and planning staff continue to work on drafting an updated and more user friendly Land Use Bylaw focused on the feedback received to date.
We look forward to bringing a draft Land Use Bylaw back to the public through a series of Open Houses in the Spring of 2012.
